Communications as a Service (CaaS) is the evolution of both the managed service and hosted telephony markets, but with added flexibility around a pay-per-use licensing model and a far more feature-rich set of services than available in traditional Centrex- type voice deployments. It allows all hardware to be placed offsite, usually in a data centre, and managed by the provider as opposed to the end customer. Infrastructure is shared amongst several customers with no impact on security or performance, which significantly lowers initial deployment costs and allows smaller companies to gain access to enterprise offerings which would traditionally fall outside their IT budgets.
