Project Management Methodology
The core objectives of the Communications Australia (CommsAust) Project Management Methodology are to deliver solutions in a timely manner whilst adhering to a strict predetermined time frame and scope.
CommsAust bases its core Project Management disciplines on universal Project Management standards, such as PRINCE2 and PMBOK moulded to manage the complex solutions space.

The fundamental elements of Project Management methodology are many and varied. The aspects which offer the most direct value to our customers are: -
Project Definition
Prior to embarking on the planning phase, it is important to gain an overall perspective of our customers business goals, mission and project objectives. Generally business and project strategies are interrelated, hence providing the Project Team with the “big picture” to achieve a successful outcome.
Project Planning
Planning enables the Project Manager to identify our customer’s objectives, project assumptions, constraints, risk and scope. The Scope will be the backbone of the Implementation / Migration Plan and hence is critical to this planning phase.
Identifying key deliverables with milestones enables CommsAust to measure the ongoing progress of the project to ensure we minimise risk and provide a quality outcome.
Implementation Plan
The implementation plan is created to enable the Project Manager to identify and track the project tasks, actions and key deliverables. These tasks are discussed and documented in the planning phase to ensure the right outcomes are considered. Only by understanding and agreeing to the outcomes required can we ensure the correct outcomes are achieved.
Communication Strategy Plan
The communication strategy allows for the logical and methodical structure of reporting through to our customers, in turn allowing you to formulate your own internal reporting requirements. Communication is one of the fundamental disciplines within the realm of Project Management. It ensures the latest document version is being viewed by all, which reduces risk of assumptions being made or conflicts.
Risk Management Plan
Risk Management is a proactive process where the Project Management team endeavour to identify any potential future risks that have not yet impacted on the project. Often these may be circumstances outside the realm of the Project Scope.
The Project Management team also review Risk Management criteria to compare this to the current implementation status. The regular Risk Assessment also assists in maintaining project control, which is then conveyed to the implementation and customer teams.
Quality Management
In an effort to ensure we deploy solutions with repeatable outcomes, CommsAust has implemented fail-safe processes that ensure we capture all required information centrally that convey the information to our implementation engineers and our customers, in the most effective and efficient manner, whilst minimising any risk potential.
